Treatment Information

Your first visit will include discussing your current health, your medical and social history, a physical exam, as well as treatment with needles. Treatments are performed through gentle insertion of sterile needles just beneath the skin. The needles are slightly thicker than human hair, used only once, then discarded. Many patients report not feeling the needles, others notice transient sensations of warmth, tingling or a mild ache.

How long does it take for acupuncture to work?

While it is possible to see improvement quickly, for long-standing conditions, it may take several treatments to notice significant changes. Ideally you would come weekly for 4-8 treatments As soon as you gain consistent relief between treatments, we will extend the time between appointments. First to twice a month, then to once every 1-2 months and ultimately to maintenance treatments every couple of months.

To get the most benefit from your acupuncture appointments, I suggest avoiding alcoholic beverages and strenuous exercise the day you are treated.

Cost

I charge on a sliding scale of between $25-$65 per treatment. I ask you to pay whatever enables you to come weekly the first one to two months. What is most important is that you can come frequently enough to obtain the results that you are seeking.

Insurance and Payment

A growing number of insurance companies will reimburse for acupuncture treatments. Consult your insurer for the terms of coverage on your policy. I ask for full payment at the time of each treatment and accept both checks and cash. I can give you a receipt after treatment and you can submit this to your insurance carrier if you wish.
